Officials will soon begin a years-long study about what should happen to the Ford lock and dam. Learn more about the issues — and the possibilities — by coming to a free tour this summer. Friends of the Mississippi River will be hosting a free walking of the Wednesday, July 13 at 5:30 pm and Thursday, August 4 at 3 pm. Meet at the splash pad at the Wabun Picnic Area (4655 46th Ave S. in Minneapolis). No registration required.
Parking
There is free parking at several lots surrounding the picnic area; please give yourself extra time to find parking.
What to bring
Participants should dress for walking (mostly paved paths) and standing. Consider bringing a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.
Route
We’ll be walking 1-2 miles, mostly on paved surfaces. The pace is relaxed and there will be quite a bit of standing.
